Guardamar is to the south of the river Segura, which ends in the Mediterranean in his municipal term. Officer and traditionally it has always been part of the region of the Low Vega of the Segura, but also some of them consider it to be a report of Low Vinalopó for linguistic, historical and geographical reasons.
It is the most southern municipality where traditionally it has been considered that one was speaking Valencian, although his use is at the beginning of the nominal XXIst century, in spite of being considered to be officially a municipality of "Valencian linguistic predominance". The cause of this fact can be motivated by several factors: the disfavor that endured the above mentioned language up to some decades ago; the fact of being the locality almost completely surrounded by other municipalities of Castilian traditional speech; and especially because of the immigration come from areas castellanohablantes and of the foreigner. In accordance with the information of the inhabitants' census of 1991, in spite of the big similarities of the Valencian one with the Castilian, only 20,5 % of the population of Guardamar was capable of reading the Valencian one.

This forest space has 800 hectares of extension and in his origin it was a set of mobile dunes of sand, which were fixed across the plantation of diverse vegetable species like pines, palm trees, cypresses, eucalyptuses...
In order to brake the advance of the dunes on theTown, produced these for the sediments of the sea and the river, and dragged by the east wind, there began this project of plantation of the pine grove of Guardamar in the year 1900, finishing in the 30s and giving place to the current forest tract consolidated next to the sea. This pine grove split at present into Park of Alfonso XIII and Park Queen Sophia, they spread between the center of the city and the beaches of Babylonia and of the Vivariums.

In the municipal term of Guardamar of the Segura there are several archaeological remains of the Prehistory and Ancient history, like a Phoenician deposit of the VIIIth century B.C. and another Iberian where the Lady of Guardamar uncovered.
Possibly the name of Guardamar in Arab epoch was Almodóvar, being the andalusíes who fortified the population and founded, in the year 944, one rábita califal that one of the most ancient is considered of Spain.
