The municipal riola term borders on the following localities: Corbera, Fortaleny, Poliñá of Júcar and Swede, all of them of the province of Valencia.
Certifying with proper documentation it appears for the first time in Llibre del Repartiment, although with the name of Ariola, which later would happen to be Giola, according to Beuter, and finally riola. Pedro Ceremonious incorporated it into the Crown.
It was part of the municipality of Corbera until in 1836 it was segregated and raised to independent municipality. In 1864 he suffered serious floods for overflowing of the river Júcar, tragedy that recured again almost with the same intensity in 1916.
In 1646, after the Moorish expulsion, riola was provided with 59 inhabited houses (approximately 250 persons). It recovered during the XVIIIth century and reached the number of 150 neighbors (more than 700 inhabitants) in 1794. In 1900 it had 1.000 inhabitants. The good prices reached by the orange in the second and third decade of last century produced a rapid population increase, going so far as to take into account 1.608 inhabitants in the census of 1950. Later the agrarian crisis and the emigration would begin towards France.
